Stereotypes. They are every where. I could give examples but why waste my time? Let me get to the point. How about we get to the two stereotypes I can't stand.
1- All Christians are the same. NO! Clearly God created everyone differently for a reason!!! I don't even look like my sister and we definitely don't act alike. So why do people assume we are the same? Teachers always tell me at the end of the year "Well you are nothing like your sister." Geez, no freaking way?!?!? I am NOT her! But why is this stereotype about christians universally understood and accepted. Because of majority. Majority of christians use 'religion' and 'church' as a label to place them higher than the people who don't go to 'church' or have a 'religion'. Christian means Christlike. You know what Christ did? He healed people. He loved. He cared. He accepted. And He saved us. How can people stand to say I am Christlike but I cause drama, I gossip, I am selfish, I care ONLY about my group of people and blah blah blah. UGH! Come on people! What is wrong with you? Do you even listen to your preacher? Surely he has preached about loving your neighbor and reading your Bible. If not, maybe you should reconsider your church home. Don't take this the wrong way but how can you claim something you don't even understand or label yourself as someone you don't even know? Whoa, did I get off topic? Yes, anyway... All christians are not the same. Besides the not so christlike christians there are other types. There are christians who are laid back and work in their own community and there are christians who go into ALL nations to share the love of Christ. So not only in actions are christians different but in personality. Understood? Let's move on.
2- Mission trips. I'm not sure how exactly to put my thoughts into words. I feel as if people expect missionaries to be perfect. HELLO. EARTH TO YOU! Jesus was the only man to walk earth and live a perfect life. There you have it. Also missionaries don't have to be people who travel over seas or out of country. Big stereotype there. A missionary is anyone who tells the story of salvation to God's lost children. You know, I don't even like the label 'missionary'. It's very title-ish. Same as pastor. Well anyone can be pastor someone. Pastor could refer to 'position of a shepherd'. And we are all shepherds right? Shepherd's for the sheep, fisher's of men? Yeah you get it. Anyway. Moving on. If you haven't gone on a mission trip let me explain. It is not easy. This is a trip outside- no WAY outside- your comfort zone. That is not easy. Well wait. Scratch that. It's easier to share God's love and His message and call for someone's life to a stranger than to a friend(or foe). Easier, but not easy. Words aren't the only way to minister. This past week I discovered that being a child of God is a full time job. Not a title to carry but a mission. My mom gives me chores and duties to accomplish and I also get free time and fun time. Same in God's kingdom. He sends me on quests to fulfill and He also gives me my choice and my decision. But recently I dug deep into God's word and presence and He opened my eyes. The spot light should not be on me just because I went out of the country to tell people about Jesus. The spot light should ALWAYS be on God. He's the one that sent His Son to earth to save us. And He literally sent Jesus through Hell to redeem us of our sins. Why don't we just take a little time to be thankful for that? Let me tell you why we don't. Because we are stuck in our comfort zone where everything is peachy and perfect. The only time we rely on God is in trouble or when that zone is shattered. So I challenge you. Destroy the comfort zone. Go on a mission trip. No, don't leave the country. Stay home. Step out of your boundary and talk to someone about Jesus. In fact if God has been tugging at your heart to reach out to someone do it. Don't hold back. However you need to. Attack that mission and complete it with you whole heart. "Wake up child, it's your time to shine. You were born for such a time as this." How perfect could it be to listen to this song? Let those words soak in. Allow God to enter your heart and mind like all those modern day ads. Can we accept this challenge? Go change nations...starting in our own backyard.
We have nothing to lose. We have a strong foundation. It is time to start building. Don't let anything hold you back. Jump into this adventure like you jump into the pool on a hot summer day. And let go. God is in control.

Talents
I think I have a real knack for cooking an baking. It is my undiscovered talent! Or hobby? Nah, must be a talent. A person can not simply be a good baker. Surely it is a God given talent. Either way I truly enjoy it and am quite good if I may say so myself.
Wait. God given talent? What are you talking about??
You know in elementary school the kids that were naturally outgoing seemed to always get the lead part or were 'president' and all that? Well everyone has their place in God's kingdom. And so he gave us our talents to use for him. Obviously not everyone uses their natural talents for God's glory. But when we do, everything works out. You know they say every character is important in a play the same goes for the church. (I am talking about us. The church body. Not the building.) Everyone is important and has a part to play. My challenge is that we use those talents for His glory.
So this is your mission if you choose to accept it.

So I'll Sing, I'll Simply Sing.
I love to worship. It is my happy place. Everyone has a different way to praise the God who created us, and mine is worship. Not singing worship. Pure. Worship. It is a state of freedom and unity with the King. I love to stand in His presence and sing to him with my heart, my completely open and true heart. Not only do I sing, but I smile, dance, jump, shout, and do whatever He wants me to do to express my love for our God.
Am I talking to myself or is that a little sappy? It's the truth. Well it's how I feel after I have experienced His presence and put it into understandable words...or maybe just big words that make me sound sentimental and intelligent. Ok, whatever, worship is awesome! Why can't we always be in a state of honoring God, and giving him the glory, and always humbling ourselves before him? This should not only happen on Sunday mornings when the Worship team plays the slow moving songs. This level of intimacy with our Lord should be for a lifetime. From the time our human minds comprehend this advancement of love with God to the time when get the real thing, HEAVEN!
Can that happen? Can my mind battle the stresses of high school and drop them all and say "God you are all that matters."? Can I? Can I make jokes that are filled with humor and pureness? Can I set the next generation up for success? Can I set myself up for success? Can I stop asking these stupid questions and just praise the God that breathed life into me? Yeah, I'll do that. I believe God gave us the right to have our own decisions. It hurts Him when we do wrong but He always forgives. My challenge to you and myself is to always be in a state of worship and understand that He will return the favor. No, God isn't going to praise us when we praise Him. What I'm saying is that by having that intimacy with Him through worship He will guide us through the tough decisions. Last question: Can we do that?
Here's my prayer:
God, I pray that you will open our eyes to your understanding. Guide us into that place of intimacy with you to deepen our relationship with each other and with our peers. I pray for divine appointments in our lives and for a constant heart after you. I pray you will set our minds into pursuing you and your wishes for our lives. Guide us down your righteous path. Help our puny human brains to fully understand your love for us. And I speak out that everyone who reads this will keep this in their mind for all of time. This is not just a wave of revival. This is an unstoppable epidemic that will spread to every nation and every tongue until every heart is touched with your wisdom and an understanding that you are God and your son Jesus died for us to have this relationship with you. And I thank you so much for that.
DON'T LET IT STOP. Do the simple thing to express your true feelings. For me... I'll sing, I'll simply sing.

Different
I was looking around for blog topics--because, frankly, my mind is blank yet I want to blog-- and I came upon this one: What my children will do differently.
I believe this is an extremely difficult topic. Not in the sense that it is hard to talk about, but that I just don't know. I want my kids to experience public school, but I really want them to be home schooled. I will keep them in the loop of future technologies, BUT they will not turn into snobs. Granted, not every child that is spoiled with material items, and technology turns out horrible but.....anyway. I most definitely want my kids to do what THEY want, not what I want. Example: Kid wants to be an artist. I want kid to be famous volleyball player. My wish is so not happening. Kid WILL, I repeat, WILL achieve his/her dreams.
Some of these things I am mentioning are things I got to experience. I don't want my children's childhood to be damaged. I want them to get in trouble for jumping on the furniture because they can't touch the ground, I mean lava. I want them to have ridiculous adventures in the backyard with the neighbor's kids. My children will be different. I pray that they will grow up and have the knowledge and wisdom that God is with them, while they have a fun and creative childhood.
I don't even fully understand this topic so let me leave it at this...I want my children to have the perfect childhood they need for their own future. Memories last a lifetime and my kid's will have an awesome one!
Doesn't it say in the Bible to have a childlike heart? Yeah, I'll have one. Kids connect better with kids, might as well have a heart like one if you're gonna parent them.

Pointlessness
Have I talked about drama lately? Ah, no? Well, let me extend my thoughts to you. No one cares about drama. I don't want to cause anymore drama by saying this but, mind your own business and respect a person's privacy by not spreading rumors or bringing the attention towards you and what you know or don't know. I am so tired of seeing all this crap on Facebook and everywhere. IT'S POINTLESS!! Know what that means? Google it. It says: Having little or NO sense, use or purpose. Understand now? Drama makes NO sense it has NO use and has absolutely NO purpose!
1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8--9-10 Ok, I'm calm now. Who ever is reading this you have no idea how frustrated I get when I see pointless drama. (Keep in mind I am NOT involved in this drama, I just see it and hate it)
So I don't go off in my own little world elaborating on this subject, I'll just share some verses that help me, and will hopefully help all you drama starters.
In your anger do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent
Psalm 4:41
In this verse David is saying that when you are in a situation do not act upon your anger. A few weeks ago at youth we talked about reacting and responding. Reacting is uncontrolled and based on your immediate feelings, a response is thought out when you have calmed down and overlooked the situation with knowledge and consideration. So in a 'drama filled' situation, don't react. Lie in bed and search your heart, how do you really feel? What do you really believe-in the sense that you are keeping your personal ethics and ways of life in mind-about the problem at hand? And be SILENT. Yeah, shut up and let God work through you and tell you the best decision. Then ACT upon your RESPONSE.
By the way why don't you grab your own Bible that's probably sitting on a bookshelf just begging to be opened and read and find Proverbs 2 (the whole chapter) and 3 (whole chapter too) if you really want to know more about wisdom--how to get it, benefits, and good stuff. Hey even read Chapter 4 (P.S. mine is titled Wisdom is Supreme...hmm maybe wisdom is important...)
A man who lacks judgement derides his neighbor,
but a man of understanding holds his tongue
A gossip betrays a confidence
but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.
Proverbs 11:12,13
So if a man lacks judgement(synonym-understanding) breaks down his friends, but if he does have understanding then he will be WISE enough to hold his tongue and not cause trouble. Also if you gossip it betrays, ouch strong word?, yes betrays confidence--also known as that person's privacy. Go you for intruding!-- but if you are a person who can be trusted you'll keep a secret. I don't think I should elaborate this.
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid. Proverbs 12:1
I love this verse. Read it again... 'nuff said.
Proverbs 12:26 says "A righteous man is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray." Yeah, be careful who you surround yourself with. Your friends shape you into who you become, there are good relationships that build you and others that break you. Watch out.
While you got that Bible open check out Proverbs 22:17-29 Sayings of the Wise might be helpful right?
Like one who seizes a dog by the ears is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own. Proverbs 26:17. Wha---? Didn't make sense? Lemme dumb it up for you. Basically if you screw around in other people's business your like a cruel person who would harm an adorable puppy. That's about how I see it. Stay OUT of your peer's business you have no right to be there and you'll just cause more trouble by bla-bla-ing about it other places. Just stop. Shut up and be silent--I mentioned that earlier right?
And just to wrap it up, by causing drama you'll just ruin more and more things. "Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun." Ecclesiastes 2:11
In the context of drama this verse interprets to-- In the future, when you look back at all the drama that was caused by your own hands, you never accomplished anything. It was pointless. You were chasing something that couldn't be caught and you never gained anything. You mean after all that hard work of telling everyone about Sally Sue's private life I never gain anything? Yeah that's right. By ruining someone else's reputation nothing happens. In fact, you probably end up crushing your own reputation with your own greedy hand. Hope I didn't just rain on your lovely drama parade, but the truth is the truth.
I hope this will help you, in whatever situation you find yourself in now. By no means am I trying to change your social status as Queen or King of the Rumor Realm but I am trying to knock some sense into you. Come on now. Do you really want people at your 10, 15, or even 25 year high school reunion to avoid you because you're still causing a ruckus with your meaningless and pointless rumors? Think about it, think about it long and hard. Just remember who you are: A child of God. So why don't you resemble your Father in a good way.

Oh! The Places You'll Go!
"Oh! The Places You'll Go...Kid You'll Move Mountains!" Dr. Seuss
I completely agree with this! This quote has many interpretations, so here is mine.
Let me start by saying this-
I have been many places in my life. Including: Atlanta, Georgia Homer, Alaska (and some other town in Alaska) The Bahamas and almost all over Texas and this summer I'll be going to Canada! That is a whole lot of places to go! Most of these trips have been for my own leisure. Atlanta and Canada are an exception, I went (and am going) to move mountains! I never thought myself as a missionary, but it is so easy! I don't have to go to other countries to preach and reach people. After the trip to Atlanta I realized I can go out into the community and be Jesus with skin on. And like in Dr. Seuss' poem, there have been hard times but there have also been times of prospering. As I grow deeper into God's word I am recognizing His call on my life.
In my generation, it is extremely difficult to keep to your own promises and promises to others. I promised myself many things, like not dating until college (definitely keeping that one!) and other not so serious promises--like not procrastinating on the next school project. By keeping these promises I am polishing my future without even realizing it. I am beginning new habits that are good and dropping the bad habits off. Now what does this have to do with my quote? Well, honestly I don't know, I just felt like saying that. No, really. Real talk, man. I'm telling the truth. I guess what I am trying to say is that by not just focusing on the immediate satisfaction, but looking on the consequences in the long run you can only be benefitting yourself. This can come up in any aspect of your life. What music you listen to-like I mentioned in a previous blog- can make you who you are, who your friends are (I might have to elaborate on this in another blog), what activities you pursue, and of course habits. So when you are practicing any of these it is important that any decision made (whether you think it is important or not) will drastically change your future. Ok, maybe not DRASTICALLY, however some decisions do change the future drastically and some change the future in an unnoticeable way. <- Granted, eventually it will be noticed.
So when Dr. Seuss says that "Kid you'll move mountains!" He means it. I have no idea where you will move those mountains. Maybe you will move the mountains completely away or perhaps you will just shove them out of the way until they come back to be a bigger problem. Hopefully you know what you're doing.
I only know that God's plan for me is to go out and help move mountains of all sizes.

The Melodic Thought
Music is a great shaper of who a person can become. My grandma helped me make discernment in choosing music all though I highly doubt she realizes it. I remember I really wanted the new Carrie Underwood album Carnival, I even asked for it for my birthday. So my wonderful grandma got it for me, but she was wise and looked up the lyrics. One song in particular she did not agree with. I believe it is called "I don't even know my last name." Or something. Anyway, my grandma showed me the CD but explained she didn't want me to have it because of the song on there that she didn't like. We both agreed that Carrie Underwood was still an amazing singer and person we just did not agree with the message she was sending so, we tossed the CD in the garbage. I must admit I was angry at first. In fact I was angry for awhile. As I got older I got over it. Now I realize I need to pay close attention to the lyrics, for they mean much more then words that sound great with an instrument. I listen to mostly Christian music but yes, like a normal teenager I listen to some (or a lot) of secular music. This usually depends on what's going on in life. I think anyone could admit that that is the case. Music is so easily accepted into our mind yet it reaches further...into our soul. Yeah, that sounds really creepy. Think about it though! How many times have you listened to a bunch of music and became this creature that thought exactly like the lyrics of the music. Well I may be the only one but it's happened. I realize that that's not who I am.
Music also defines a person, and especially is a big first impression. So here's a natural conversation I would have with a stranger I just met.
"Hello, my name is none-of-your-business. And yours?"
"Hi, I'm so-and-so."
"Nice to meet you!" What's your favorite color? Favorite food? Restaurant? Sport? Questions like that follow eventually I will ask... "So, what kind of music do you like/listen to?"
Now if so-and-so said heavy metal or screamo I would be quick to judge. In my head at least. I know to be nice to a stranger and when I see them again, make myself little so they pass me over and find their hard rocker friends. Biased, probably but that's how it is with me anyway. Now I wouldn't quite leave them in the dust. I would definitely be friendly, I just don't know how musical conversations would go...
I also realize music is definitely something to talk about. Have you ever had a conversation involving JUST music? I have. It was O-MAZING! Usually with some of the members in my worship team, but mainly with friends. We talk about new bands we have discovered, like One Direction, or we just sit there throwing song lyrics and titles at each other. I love music in case you can't tell. I could go on and on about how it makes me feel, the dramatic-ness about it at certain times, and clearly it builds suspense- I mean what movie doesn't have incredible music to accompany the actors in their horrifying ending or beautiful reunion? Exactly. Music is life to me. It has grown to everyday life and evolves as this crazy world reveals itself through music.
Secular music is ridiculous! I mean really? Was it that necessary to mention the F word every other line of that song? Or did you really have to mention THAT? Even the descriptions... I mean I would take it offensively if someone described me as damn sexy (excuse my language.) EWW! Where are gentlemen of the world? I want to be called radiant, lovely, beautiful. I have high standards men, so you better work on that crap you call music. Music should be poetry, or a story combined with beautiful sounds. To silky? Yes. Here, a more down to earth explanation of my opinion. Music should be the sounds that reflect your personality. Yeah, the music you want to hear as you walk into the presence of the Almighty. For me, I want bright, happy tones that fill His ears and heart with joy. Music to dance to and celebrate. Music is different for every single person though. This is my simple opinion. I like it though :)
